Full Moon Hike

Walk by the light of the full moon and learn more about the moon and the night life here at Dead Horse Point State Park. This is a 1 mile hike on dirt and rock trail so please wear appropriate footwear. We will meet in front of the Visitor Center at 8:45pm.

Sunset Talk

Sunset can be a spectacular time to come and view what the park has to offer. Watch the sunset and while you do, a ranger will talk to you about what makes this park so special. Meet by the bathrooms out at the Dead Horse Point Overlook at 7pm. We will be walking a little ways down the west rim trail. You are welcome to bring a chair if you would like.

Star Party @ Sand Flats Recreation Area

Sand Flats Recreation Area is teaming up with Utah State Parks to bring the Moab area more dark sky programs. On Friday August 23rd at 9pm we will be stargazing, constellation finding, and telescope viewing.

Scorpion Hunt

Armed with our trusty UV lights we will hike along the mountain bike trail looking for the glow of scorpions. Meet out at the mountain bike parking lot at 9pm for a fun night of hunting. UV lights are provided but if you have one please bring it and make sure you have closed toe shoes.

Bat’s Incredible! Bat talk

Many different species of bat’s call the canyons of the Moab area home. Come learn more about these amazing creatures at our bat talk at the Visitor Center at 8:30pm.

Being an International Dark Sky Park we have some amazing night sky views. Join us as we talk about the stars, constellations, and deep space objects seen in the night sky. Meet in the Visitor Center parking lot at 9pm.

Scorpions are nocturnal arachnids that will glow under UV light. Come on a ranger-led hunt as we try to find these amazing creatures. Meet at the mountain bike parking lot at 8:30pm. Please wear closed toe shoes!

Utah State Parks is once again partnering with Sand Flats Recreation Area to bring you a unique and fun night sky event. Spend the night walking the trail and searching for these amazing arachnids. Meet at the trail head at 8:30pm.
