In the heart of Dinosaurland, Red Fleet is a destination in itself and a great location for discovery of the area. Hike to 200-million-year-old dinosaur tracks, boat and fish on Red Fleet Reservoir, and camp or picnic in a campground overlooking a sandstone and desert landscape.
History
Dinosaurs inhabited the land in and around present-day Vernal. Red Fleet State Park is home to numerous dinosaur tracks. These tracks are believed to be more than 200 million years old. Paleontologists can tell from these tracks preserved in Nugget sandstone that the dinosaurs were three-toed (tridactyl) and walked on two legs (bipedal). The tracks range from three to 17 inches. The second site of about 40 dinosaur tracks of four to five inches, in the more recent Carmel Formation, has been found in the area, however, the species has not yet been identified.
The tracks can be reached by hiking a 1.5-mile trail that is somewhat strenuous because of its several uphill and downhill sections. The best viewing times of the tracks are early morning or late afternoon. The tracks are somewhat difficult to see when the sun is directly overhead.
Opened to the public as a state park in 1988.

Campground Information
Each campsite comes with a shade shelter pavilion and fire ring. There are pull through and back-in sites that accommodate 55 to 60 RV’s. The campground also has bathrooms, showers and a general store.
We offer 3 cottages which are also referred to as sites 9,10,11. Site 9 is ADA accessible and sleeps up to 6 adults. Sites 10 and 11 offer twin size bunk beds and a larger loft and can sleep up to 8 adults and 2 children. Each cottage contains running water with flushing toilets, sinks and showers. There is a full-size fridge microwave and a propane grill with side burner for cooking. You will need to provide bedding and cookware. There is no internet, however, there is a TV provided in each cottage.

Watercraft Rentals (Paddleboards and Kayaks)
Red Fleet Reservoir has been considered a mini Lake Powell that rents kayaks and paddleboards (with paddles and PFD’s) for an enjoyable and safe day on the water.
Watercraft cannot be reserved, but can be rented at the parks entrance gate from May – September. Rentals dependent on staff and weather!
