Sand Hollow State Park

Decontamination

From Laura Melling, Sand Hollow State Park Complex Manager…Lake Powell’s situation is an immense threat to all Utah waters and protection will be the focus at Sand Hollow Complex Parks; with the resources available, staying Quagga free at Sand Hollow/Quail Creek/Gunlock will be our top priority.
Lake Powell will provide some education/information at their boat ramps but will not guarantee to decontaminate watercraft exiting the Lake POWELL. The main focus at Sand Hollow is prevention/decontamination of high risk boats prior to entering Sand Hollow Complex Parks. Between September 13, 2012 and May 15, 2013 Sand Hollow contacted 455 boats last launched on Lake Powell and 1,017 coming from Lake Mead/Lower Colorado waters. These watercraft are a major threat to Utah waters and will be our top priority. We will offer decontamination to all boats. At the request of DWR we are encouraging local boaters to “Clean, Drain and Dry” on their own.

Watercraft going from Sand Hollow to Quail Creek, Gunlock and beyond do not require a decontamination. Clean tags are no longer used. If you have questions or require further information, please contact Sand Hollow State Park 435-680-0715.
Thank you for your support in keeping our waters Quagga free.
