ALERTS
There are currently two active alerts.
ALERT 1: Plan Ahead for President’s Day Weekend
Presidents’ Day weekend is one of the busiest weekends of the year at Snow Canyon State Park. For the most enjoyable experience, park staff recommends the following:
- Avoid peak times and days (i.e. Saturday and Sunday between 11a.m. and 4p.m.). For a more peaceful experience, and access to the most popular features, visit during non-peak hours (7a.m. to 10:30a.m. and 4p.m. to 10p.m.).
- Car-pool with friends or family.
- Avoid weekend crowds by visiting on Friday or Monday.
- Be flexible. Parking is in designated lots only. If the lot (and hike) you want to access is full park in one of the other designated lots and explore a new trail.
Visitors arriving during peak hours should be prepared for long entrance lines. In addition, when designated parking areas and pullouts are full, the park entrances will close to all incoming vehicles. Closures can last for up to two-hours and during this time vehicles will be turned around and directed to other nearby recreation areas.

ALERT 2: Construction Impacts October 2024 – March 2025
On October 21, 2024, construction began on several visitor and park improvement projects. Work includes construction of a new restroom at the Scout Cave/Johnson Canyon trailhead; widening of the south entrance road from one to two incoming lanes; construction of a new south entrance station; and the expansion and improvement of multiple parking lots. The Park will remain open, however, park entry AND multiple parking lots and trailheads will be impacted. Please be aware of the following dates and impacts:
- December 2, 2024 – March 15, 2025: The south entrance of Snow Canyon State Park will intermittently have on-way lane restrictions managed by flaggers.
- October 21, 2024 – March 15, 2025: The Scout Cave/Johnson Canyon parking lot is closed. Access to the Johnson Canyon, Scout Cave, and Padre Canyon trails will be limited as a result.
- Schedule changes are possible; updates and schedule changes will be posted as necessary.
Please excuse our dust as we make these park and visitor improvements. For more information, please phone 435-628-2255.
