Gunlock State Park

Gunlock Falls

Are the Gunlock Falls Currently Active?

The current conditions are NOT ACTIVE. There is no water following in this area of the park.

When do the Falls Run?

The Gunlock Falls are active when the Gunlock reservoir is at 105% capacity. This IS an abnormal occurrence. However, they are breathtaking to see when active. Unfortunately, we can not predict when the falls will occur. Generally, the most likely time to view them is during spring runoff starting mid-March (if water levels are high). There are many years that the falls do not occur at all and guests need to be aware of this factor when planning a visit to the park and hoping to see the falls.

The Falls Hike

Discover this 1.2-mile out-and-back trail located in Gunlock State Park. It is generally considered an easy route, typically taking about 31 minutes to complete. This area is popular for hiking and walking, so you can expect to encounter other people while exploring, especially while the falls are active.

WATERFALL SAFETY: Recreating on the rocks near the waterfalls is dangerous. Rocks are slick, water is swift, and covered hazards exist in the pools. We strongly encourage visitors to use caution and be observant in the area. With changing weather, ice and additional slippery conditions are possible. Please follow the advice of the signage posted in the area. If children are brought to the falls, remember there are no barriers. Keeping a close eye and hand on children of all ages is recommended.

REMINDER: The waterfalls are within Gunlock State Park, which is a fee area. Please utilize the appropriate pay station to pay your entrance fee. Utah State Parks annual day-use passes are accepted.
