Spring Art Show-featuring six artists

Susan Christensen – My love of fabric began at an early age. I have always been amazed by it’s versatility. Fabric may be used to create anything. From wearables to art. It may be cut, stitched, glued or dyed for any purpose.
The Journey from traditional quilting to free form repurposed clothing has been a long one for me as I have finally found my place in a pattern free form of textile art quilts.
Christine Hale – Christine Hale is an emerging artist based in St. George. She started creating art using a process called “Telamadera” or collage fusion. The collages were fused onto wood and varnished to a high gloss. Christine is a retired English teacher and high school administrator, with no formal art education. After moving to St. George eight years ago, she decided that she wanted to expand her art skills and starting taking drawing and colored pencil classes. She also wanted to add “thread painting” to her work. Next came the sewing machine. For the past couple of years, Christine has enjoyed creating landscapes using textiles and embellishing them with threads. Her process is to start with the sky and slowly develop the rest of the piece with strips of fabric until her landscape takes shape. Her friends encouraged to her to display her art at Red Cliff Gallery for the first time last year. Her piece was awarded with an “Honorable Mention.”
Mark Gamett – Mark Gamett is a native of Las Vegas, Nevada, now retired and living in Toquerville, Utah. He grew up spending much of his time in the cool, green landscape of Cedar Mountain and fishing with his dad at Panguitch Lake. His love of this area led to his decision to retire to southern Utah and reflect his love of this area through his art. Mark works primarily in soft pastel because of its tactile nature and vibrant color. His paintings reflect his reaction to the beauty of a moment in time, whether panoramic or close at hand. Mark invites you to share his love of the land and hopes that his artwork can trigger your own pleasant memories of the beauty around us.
Michael Grefe – Michael Grefe’s passion is to create Narrative Art and to show things in life that are real and not sugar-coated. I try to express issues with problems we face everyday.
Allan Merrill – Allan Merrill’s collection includes photos and pastels.
Jo Ann Merrill – Jo Ann sold her photography artwork at This Is the Place Heritage Park, University of Utah Museum of Fine Art, Red Butte Gardens, Local Colors of Utah Gallery, Salt Lake Art and Craft Saturday Market, Sundance Resort, Frank Lloyd Wright Taliesin West, and Utah Housing Corporation. She was Chair of the Holladay City Utah Arts Council where she organized their art events such as the City’s Fall Arts Show and the Blue Moon Festival. She served on the Salt Lake Downtown Alliance Committee and was a featured artist at the Oasis Café/Colden Braid Bookstore and Wheeler Farm.
After moving to St. George in 2015, she assisted with the Arrowhead Gallery start-up and was an artist in the gallery. She was on the Arrowhead Gallery Committee where she made arrangements for the monthly featured gallery artist and the Utah Tech University featured art student. She was Chair of the Red Cliff Gallery for 4 years handling 5 art shows per year as well as other events. She is currently Public Relations Chair and has been on the Board/Executive Committee for the Southern Utah Art Guild for approximately 7 years.
