The Utah Department of Natural Resources, Division of Parks and Recreation, has seasonal positions (no benefits) available at Great Salt Lake State Park in Magna, Utah. This appointment will last from approximately April 2025 through December 2025, with possibility of extension. Housing is not provided.

Seasonal Park Ranger Aide

Examples of Duties

Assist in the operation of Great Salt Lake State Park. Duties will involve: greeting park visitors and helping them discover the park’s resources and how to enjoy them appropriately; staffing the gift shop; collecting park fees; check-ins and assisting of incoming campers. Additional duties include maintenance of buildings, grounds and trails; grounds keeping work; performing other duties as assigned.

This position can be fitted into an internship if requested.

Job Requirements and Skills

Applicant must be 16 years of age or older and have a valid Utah driver’s license at time of employment. Applicant should have the ability to work independently in a tourism environment.

Preference may be given to applicants with cash handling, customer service experience, and education in a natural resource related field.

Other

Applicants must be willing to work in an outdoor setting, and work weekends and holidays. Applicants must successfully pass a criminal history background check upon hire.

Park Range Aide – Maintenance

Examples of Duties

Assist in the building and grounds maintenance operations at the Great Salt Lake State Park.

Duties will involve: greeting park visitors and helping them discover the park’s resources and how to enjoy them appropriately; maintenance of buildings, grounds and trails; grounds keeping work; performing other duties as assigned.

Work with park staff to provide care and maintenance of park assets.

Builds fabricate, or repair structures, equipment, and/or miscellaneous articles from verbal instructions or working drawings.

Performs general facility maintenance including carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, as well as general cleaning, and sanitation.  

Job Requirements and Skills
Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid Utah Driver’s license at the time of employment. Applicant should have the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team; be able to follow both oral and written instructions; Willing to perform janitorial, general building maintenance and groundskeeping, use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, and power tools such as weed eater and leaf blowers, operate small equipment such as mowers and tractors, etc.

Preference may be given to Applicants with education in a natural resource-related field and those with experience in Construction, Maintenance, Janitorial/ custodial/ landscaping, and customer service industries.

Skills include: 

*perform a variety of general maintenance activities
*principles and practices of construction
*follow written and/or oral instructions
*use and maintain a variety of hand tools
*maintain and/or repair tools and equipment
*principles and practices of facilities operations, maintenance, and management
* use power tools such as band saws, ripsaws, planers, etc.
*plumbing techniques and methodology
*install and/or maintain sprinkling systems
*fabricate, install, and repair structures and structural members
