Full Moon Walk

June 29th, July 29th, August 27th, September 26th, and October 25th

Overview
Join a park ranger for an evening stroll across the expanse of Silver Sands Beach. Each walk has a different topic as a 5-part series. The walk will begin after sunset, and we will watch as the moon rises and casts its reflection over the Great Salt Lake. The event tour is $3 per person + the $10 (per vehicle) to enter the park. Dogs are welcome but must be on leash. 

Meet at the Observation Deck just past the Visitor’s Center. The walk will mostly consist of approximately 1/2 mile along relatively flat terrain with typical beach hazards (uneven, unstable sand, changing conditions, etc). Strollers have difficulty in the sand.

Tickets Available
Everyone must pre-register, we will only have 100 people max capacity on each monthly tour. If you are not pre-registered we cannot ensure you will have a spot on the tour. Registration for this event will open exactly a month before the date of the event.

Location

What to bring
Flashlights are recommended, though we will keep them off for much of the time. Bug spray and waterproof shoes are also highly recommended. Dress for the weather

Morning Beach Walk

June 20th, July 25th, and August 22nd. 

Overview
Join a park ranger to discover the wonders of Great Salt Lake. Walk Sunset Beach while you learn about the natural and cultural history of the area and discover what birds or other wildlife might be hanging out.   

The walk will begin on the lawn area right by the park sign. This event is $3 per person + the $10 (per vehicle) entry fee. Dogs are welcome but must be on leash. This walk is expected to take about 45 minutes. The walk will be just under a mile on the beach, expect typical beach hazards during the walk. Waterproof shoes are recommended.

Great Salt Lake Snippets

Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 2:15pm from May 8, 2026 – September 7, 2026

Overview
Join a ranger on the back deck of the Visitor Center for a free, informal talk about the rich history, culture, and natural beauty of Great Salt Lake.

These short programs offer engaging insights and invite visitors to see the park and the lake with new appreciation. Topics vary and may include information about the local wildlife and plants, exploration, the resorts, or sailing.  

These talks typically last 15-20 minutes and are suitable for all ages. Seating is available on the deck and no reservation is required. Simply stop by, take in the lake views, and enjoy a moment of learning and connection in this beautiful setting.

The program is free, however the day use fee to the park is still required.

Location
Back deck of the Visitor Center. 

What to bring
Dress accordingly for the weather. Bug spray and sunscreen are also recommended. While seating is available, you are welcome to bring your own.

Special Use Permits

Planning an event or activity at Great Salt Lake State Park? A Special Use Permit is required for any activities beyond normal park use. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Commercial activities
  • Athletic events
  • Music events
  • Bouncy houses
  • Large group gatherings
  • Filming

To apply for a Special Use Permit, please submit an application along with a $10 processing fee at least 30 days before your event. Additional forms, such as a Marine Event Form, may be required depending on the nature of your event.

The Park Manager will review your application to determine eligibility for a Special Use Permit. The permit fee is $50, with additional fees varying based on the event type and its impact on the park and public.
