Deena Riley Millecam-Seasons of the Year
“Nature’ is the best model an artist can have. A hike along a trail enjoying all the nuances of color, texture, form and rhythm provides a painting waiting to happen,” shares Deena Riley Millecam.
Born in Salt Lake City to Howard and Shirley Riley, her family later moved to Payson, Utah where she grew up on a fruit farm. Her appreciation to her mother and father for teaching her how to work extends to her vocation in education.
Attending Brigham Young University for three years, later graduating from Utah State with a Bachelor of Education in Fine Arts, she taught at Vernal Junior High. Receiving a Master of Education at the University of Utah, she was an administrator for several positions within the Uintah School District.
Deena continues her studies in art, attending workshops and classes taught by other artists. She also appreciates and learns from her peers.
She exhibits at Gallery 25-Ogden, Gallery 35-St. George, Red cliff Gallery-St. George, Cache Valley-Logan, Cedar City, and Uintah Basin Technology, innovation Hub, Uintah County Library in Vernal, Utah.
She enjoys Plein Air painting with friends, doing commission work for customers, and selling her artwork in galleries and especially farmer’s markets.
Deena’s greatest joy comes from teaching. She has taught in school settings, juvenile detention centers, prison, and for private lessons.
“To watch budding artists feel a sense of accomplishment as they share their artwork is the best feeling ever. To help someone love art is a great gift both to a student and the teacher.”
Her watercolor and oil in landscapes, portraits, and still life make up the body of her work.
Deena now lives in St. George after living in Vernal, Utah for fifty-one years.
Seven Children and nineteen grandchildren bring joy to her life.
Her work is dedicated to her late husband, John Millecam, who provided the encouragement and support for her accomplishments in art.
