Officials Recover Body of a Salt Lake County Man at East Canyon State Park

MORGAN, UT – A 25-year-old Salt Lake County man, Shervin Rayeneh, is dead following an incident at East Canyon State Park.

On Sunday, June 16, 2019, at 3 p.m. Rayeneh was boating on East Canyon reservoir with friends and family when he and two friends left the boat to swim nearby. Shortly after entering the water, Rayeneh began to struggle and turned to return to the boat when he went under the water and did not surface.

Passersby were flagged down to call 911. They assisted with a hasty search of the area before a Utah State Park ranger responded to the area to help.

Weber County SAR, Summit County SAR, and Morgan County SAR were called to assist. Crews used side-scan sonar and an underwater ROV (remote operated vehicle).

Search teams located Rayeneh at approximately 10:08 p.m. Sunday night. With the aid of the ROV, the crew was able to bring his body to the surface to awaiting dive team members.

The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation extends our condolences to the family and friends impacted by this incident.
