Two Tips for Boating Awareness

Always make a plan before setting sail!

Staying safe out on the water is one of our Boating Program’s biggest concerns. We want to make sure you make it home to your friends and family at the end of the day.

To help raise awareness, we have compiled two of our biggest tips on how you can prepare for a safe boating trip.

Our Two Tips

Weather– Check the forecast before heading out and pay attention to changing conditions while on the water. Weather can change rapidly in Utah.

File a Float Plan– For short daytime outings, let a responsible person know where you are going and when you plan to return. For extended outings, leave a float plan with a relative or friend; make sure to describe the vessel you will use in detail and include the license plate of the tow vehicle and trailer. Describe each section of your trip, including location and stopping points with dates/times. Many lives have been saved by following this simple step!
