We’re Recruiting – Become A State Park Ranger!
We’re recruiting! The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation is searching for driven individuals with a love of the outdoors to become the next class of Park Rangers.
Our park rangers work in the field all across Utah. These rangers work to help ensure public safety, as well as increase education about Utah’s recreational resources.
While our rangers are usually based out of one of our 43 state parks, park rangers have statewide authority similar to that of Utah Highway Patrol. Our rangers patrol roads, OHV trails, and waterbodies across Utah.
How To Apply
When a park ranger position opens up, it is placed on the state jobs website. You MUST apply on that website to be considered for an interview.
Once on the state jobs website, sort open jobs by job title. If you find “PARK RANGER”, we have an opening and you must complete the application on this site before the closing date.
For this round of recruitment, you must complete the application prior to January 15, 2018.
After you apply and are qualified through the system, you will receive a letter notifying you to download and complete additional background information.
In order to be considered for employment as a park ranger, you must meet these qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- U.S. Citizenship
- Hold a current/valid driver’s license
- Have a strong work ethic
- Have good moral character
- Enjoy working with people
- Pass a background investigation
- Must pass the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) physical fitness test
Please note, there are physical standards that need to be met in order to qualify to be a peace officer in the state of Utah. Click here for more information on those physical standards.
While a degree in outdoor recreation, criminal justice, or a related field is a great way to help your career, the required bachelor’s degree does NOT need to be in those fields. Any bachelor’s degree meets the requirement.
If you successfully complete the interview, physical fitness testing, and background investigation, you will be invited to attend POST academy.
This testing process includes a: profile test, medical exam, drug screening, psychological evaluations, polygraph test, and a POST entrance exam. Upon completion and passing of this process, a conditional job offer may be given.
