2017 Roundup – Rider Registration Information

Antelope Island State Park 31st Annual Bison Roundup

Registration is now closed.

Dates and Times:

Dates:  October 28, 2017
Times:  Main park gate opens at 6:00 a.m.
Range Ride starts 9:00 a.m.
Mandatory Ride Orientation:  8:00 a.m. at the Fielding Garr Ranch.  All riders must attend the meeting in order to ride and be assigned to a group.

Required Fees:

$50 per rider registration fee. The registration fee includes entrance to the park, a souvenir bandana, and dinner on Saturday evening (DOES NOT include horse rental).

No registrations will be accepted after October 11, 2017.  If not registered by that date, you will not be allowed to participate in the range ride.  No exceptions.

Cancellations made on or before October 19, 2017 will be issued a full refund.  Refunds will be made by crediting the same credit card.  Cancellations made after October 19, 2017 will forfeit all fees.

Camping:

For those wishing to camp at the Fielding Garr Ranch, you may check-in Friday, October 27, 2017 starting at noon.  The overnight camping fee is $30 per vehicle. A truck and camper is one vehicle; a truck and horse trailer is another vehicle. Each would require a separate camp fee.  This fee pays for Friday and Saturday nights only.  All campers must vacate the ranch by 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Important Information:

Saturday October 28, 2017 will be the main push to move bison from the southern portion of the island to the handling facilities on the north end of the island.  Sunday, any bison left on the range will be moved to the handling facilities.  Please be aware that in recent years all the animals have been rounded up the first day.

Chili dinner hosted by Friends of Antelope Island:

The Friends of Antelope Island, a non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance the visitors’ experience on the Island, will host a dinner on Saturday October 28, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Fielding Garr Ranch barn for those participating in the ride.  Although the dinner is free of charge, donations are gratefully accepted.  For information on the Friends of Antelope Island, contact Neka Roundy at (801) 451-3286.

General Information:

  • Weed-free hay is recommended.
  • You must have your own horse to participate in the Range Ride
  • No refunds will be given after October 19, 2017.
  • Only registered riders may participate in the Range Ride.
  • Riders must be at least 18 years of age.
  • No dogs will be allowed on the trail, dogs must be leashed in camp.
  • Camping is permitted in designated areas only.  No vehicles or equipment allowed in the wetland areas.
  • Any fire restriction in place at the time of the roundup will be enforced.
  • Cultural resources on Antelope Island are protected and must not be removed.
  • By order of the Davis County Sheriff, no alcohol will be consumed prior to, or on the trail. Violators will be asked to leave the island and may be issued a citation.
  • Roundup memorabilia will be available for purchase at the ranch.

6:00 a.m.   Park’s main entrance gate opens.
8:00 a.m.   Mandatory Range Ride Orientation at the Fielding Garr Ranch.  All riders must attend this meeting in order to ride and be assigned a group.
9:00 a.m.   Range ride.
5:00 p.m.   Dinner hosted by Friends of Antelope Island (Fielding Garr Ranch Barn – for Ride participants and volunteers only)
10:00 p.m.   Park’s main entrance gate closes.  You may exit the park at any time but will not be able to re-enter until the gate opens the following day at 6:00 a.m.

6:00 a.m.  Park’s main entrance gate opens.
**8:00 a.m. Mandatory Range Ride Orientation at the Fielding Garr Ranch.  All riders must attend this meeting in order to ride and be assigned a group.

10:00 p.m.  Park’s main entrance gate closes.  You may exit at any time.

** This ride will take place only if animals remain on the range.

Tickets and Camping Tags:

Tickets for entry into the park will be mailed to all registered riders. You must provide a valid mailing address when registering.

Camping tickets will be mailed to all registered campers. You must provide a valid mailing address when registering your vehicles to camp.
