Man Drowns at Fred Hayes State Park at Starvation

DUCHESNE, UT — A Spanish Fork man is dead following an incident today at Fred Hayes State Park at Starvation.

The man was shore fishing at the reservoir with his friend. Both men were in their mid-to-late 70’s.

At approximately 3:40 p.m., while the two were walking along the shore near the northwest side of the Freedom Bridge, the victim slipped and fell. He then rolled several feet down the bank and into the water.

The fishing companion was unable to assist the victim and called 911 for help. Members of the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, along with a Utah State Parks ranger.

First-responders recovered the man, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name of the victim is being withheld at this time pending family notification.

The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation extends our condolences to the friends and family impacted by this incident.
