Do You Know Boating’s BIG 3?
The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and marine law enforcement officers across the country want you to be aware of the 3 major contributors to accidents, injuries, and fatalities in the water.
1 of every 2 accidents, injuries, and fatalities is caused by ignoring the BIG 3.
- Wear your life jacket– Almost ¾ of all fatal boating accident victims drowned, and of those, 88% were not reported as wearing a life jacket.
- Obey and follow navigation rules – Even though there are no yellow lines on the water, there are still “rules of the road” you must follow.
- Don’t drink and boat– Alcohol was the leading contributing factor in all recreational boating fatalities.
