In association with Fillmore City's July 4th Celebration, the Territorial Statehouse State Park Museum hosts an Old Time Dance on July 3rd from 9:00 pm - 11:30 pm Everyone is welcome to experience the fun of dancing pioneer style in the same place as Brigham Young and other pioneers danced. Dance instruction and music will be provided as you learn reels, marches, polkas and schottisches. You'll fill out dance cards and play some games to choose your dance partners. Wear sturdy shoes and when you need a little break to cool down, there will be refreshments provided to bring your strength back up.
There will also be a game of Rounders (pioneer baseball) held the afternoon of July 4th. Everyone is welcome to put a team together, whether your young, old, skilled and not-so-skilled. This early form of baseball uses homemade bats and balls with no mitts. The rules allow for a crazy game where any hit ball is fair and the runner gets out by being tagged or pelted when the ball is caught on the fly or on the first bounce. All batters on a team have to get out before the inning is over.
So come spend the day with an old time, small town celebration! The park is also the site of food booths, games, talent shows and general small town fun.
