Johnston’s Army Adventure Camp is designed for Boy Scouts and offers an authentic and unique hands-on adventure! Scouts travel back in time to 1858 – 1861 and enter the world of a soldier with Johnston’s Army at Camp Floyd in the Utah Territory.  New recruits are processed, mustered into the army and issued uniforms.

  Not much can live in water as salty as Great Salt Lake so those that do have some pretty cool adaptations. Children ages 6-12 are invited to come and learn all about Brine Shrimp, also known as “Sea Monkeys”. Meet at 11 am at Bridger Bay Beach.  For more information call (801) 721-9569.

Location: Antelope Island State Park

  Join park staff and members of the Ogden Astronomical Society for an evening of wonder as we turn our gaze upward. Meet at White Rock Bay Day Use Area just before sunset to look at the sun through a Solar Scope, followed by a 20 minute presentation about space. Deep space viewing will take place afterwards. Please arrive no later than 9:30 pm (the Gate closes to incoming traffic at 10 pm). If you bring a flashlight, please make it a red-colored lens. Weather permitting. Park entrance fees apply. Location: Dead Horse Point State Park

Bird song floats along the early morning breeze at Dead Horse Point State Park.  It’s the height of migration and the park is teeming with birds. Join park staff for an early morning bird walk.  Participants should meet at 7 a.m. at the visitor center. Remember to bring water, sturdy shoes and binoculars if available.

TENATIVE EVENT - Triathlon Relay at Rock Cliff. Rock Cliff Recreation will be closed from 5:00pm on Friday, September 14, 2012 until 5:00pm Saturday, September 15, 2012. Day use, campgrounds, and adjacent waters will be closed to the public for the dates listed. Spectator access will be permitted by shuttle. The ramp at Hailstone will remain open to the pubilc. Please plan accordingly.

Location: Dead Horse Point State Park

Dead Horse Point State Park hosts some of the darkest skies found in Southeastern Utah.  The Milky Way Galaxy appears so vivid that some nights you can see purple and green tints as it stretches across the sky.  Join park staff at 8 p.m. at the visitor center for a deeper look into the current night sky.  Bring a red flashlight, a camp chair and your knowledge to share.

  The word “desert” comes from the word “deserted”. The truth, however, is that this land abounds with plants and animals specifically adapted to this harsher environment. TENTATIVE EVENT - 2012 Laser No Coast Championship

This event is OPEN to the public and is spectacular to watch with the beautiful fall colors as a backdrop.  Event will take place at the PWC ramp and adjacent waters from there to the dam.  Boat access will be somewhat restricted in that area for the races.  Go to http://www.sailparkcity.org/ for more information.

Location: Dead Horse Point State Park

The full moon rises behind the prominent La Sal Mountains slowly revealing the rugged landscape below.  Hike across sandstone illuminated by the pale light of a full moon.  Join park staff at the visitor center for a 1-mile full moon hike along the Intrepid Loop. Participants should meet at the visitor center at 8 p.m., bring flashlights, water, sturdy shoes and a sense of adventure.

  Meet at 6 pm at the Trail Head in White Rock Bay Campground for this 6.5 mile hike under the light of the full moon. This hike is easy to moderate in difficulty and offers opportunities for incredible views and wildlife sightings. Wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather.
