First Day Hike: Buffalo Point. Come and welcome the new year with a hike at Antelope Island State Park. Enjoy the views of Great Salt Lake from Buffalo point as we take the 1.5 mile scenic route up to the point. Meet at the visitor center at 1:30 pm. Be sure to dress warm and prepare for wind. Break in your New Year with a guided hike along the canyon rim at Dead Horse Point State Park. This 3 mile round trip hike leads to one of the most beautiful views in all of Utah. Join us on Sunday January 1st for an easy hike to Shafer Canyon Overlook. Participants should meet at the visitor center and 1 p.m. Be sure to dress warm, bring water and your sense of adventure. With a layering of snow on the ground, winter is a great time to discover some of the secrets of wildlife by learning about and studying their tracks. Join the Naturalist at 11:00 am at the visitor center to learn about animal tracks and tracking. Program is geared toward ages 6-12 but everyone is invited. For more information call (801) 721-9569.
Bright winter stars are out high in the sky, with stories just waiting to be told. The Winter Hexagon is where it all begins. Meet at 5:30 pm in the visitor center. Dress to spend time outdoors. If you bring a flashlight, be sure it has a red filter. Please note, the park gate closes to incoming traffic at 5:30 pm. For more information, call (801) 721-9569.
Learn about volcanoes and the volcanic activity responsible for the lava flows in the park. Hike to the top of the Snow Canyon cinder cone during this 1.5-mile, round trip hike.

The annual "Cisco Disco" event associated with the annual spawning of the Bonneville Cisco will take place on January 21, 2012.
State Parks and Wildlife Resources Staff will be available at Cisco Beach starting just after 6 a.m. Depending upon the weather, the best time to dip net for Cisco is right around sun rise. State Parks staff will have 10 dip nets available for loaning out. Hot chocolate will also be available.
Regular park entrance fees of $5 per vehicle will be charged.
Working together with the town of Garden City and the Bear Lake Rendezvous Chamber of Commerce, Bear Lake State Park is hosting the 3rd annual Bear Lake Monster Plunge at 12:00 (noon).
Entrance fees to the marina will not be charged for this event. Park staff reccomends that visitors and participants donate their entrance fees to the Primary Children's Medical Center.
Pleas arrive early to complete the waiver form and be ready to jump at Noon.

Enjoy an afternoon of astronomy Saturday, January 21 at Edge of the Cedars State Park Museum. From 2 to 5 p.m., visitors can experience the Starlab and learn about Navajo constellations and star stories.Starlab programs run every 30 minutes.
This art show features artist Vandy Moore’s wildlife and landscape paintings. “Clear Creek Canyon is a constant source of inspiration for me. I love nature and animals so it seemed a natural fit for me to become a nature artist,” states Moore.
