    Location: In March of 2012 the BLM fuels archaeologist worked with a crew of five dedicated volunteers to photo document the rock art located in Upper Sand Island.  Those photos were then used to render scale drawings of the rock art images by an additional crew of 33 volunteers.  This photo presentation shows the steps involved in that documentation process and the final results.

    Location: Fremont Indian State Park and MuseumThe Sagebrush Gallery at Fremont Indian State Park and Museum will show the paintings of award-winning artist, Farron Kanosh, March 16th through June 16th. The public is invited to meet the artist at a reception Saturday, March 16th from 2 to 4 p.m. The artist's work is available for sale. Kanosh, Cedar City, was born in Richfield, Utah, and received an associate degree from Snow College Richfield in art and graphics communication. He has been working on a bachelor’s degree in fine arts and studio illustration at Southern Utah University.

    Location: Dead Horse Point State ParkThe Moab Pastel Guild Presents Lyrical Landscapes will be featuring the art of 10 local artists.  They will be showing at the Bighorn Gallery at Dead Horse Point State park from May 2nd to June 29th.  The opening reception for the event will be held on May 4th from 3:00-6:00, the art will be available for purchase as well as notecards from some of the artists.  Please join us for this wonderful event featurng many of our local artists and their beautiful landscape peices.

Bring your family, neighbors, and friends! Only $6 a vehicle or $3 with the donation of two or more children's books to benefit local school children.     Location: Sand Hollow State ParkThis is the 4th annual Ironman Event for Washington County.  Athletes will begin at Sand Hollow State Park swimming 1.2 miles, then bike 56 miles to Snow Canyon State Park and run 13.1 miles to the finish line at Town Square in St. George.

    Location: Sand Hollow State ParkVolunteers for Ironman will be coming into the campgrounds all through the night on Friday May 3rd and set up begins at 4 AM.  Be prepared for a noisy night.  The park will be closed Saturay morning from 7AM to 11AM and campers in Primative and Sandpit Campgrounds will not be able to leave until 11 AM.  Campers in Westside can exit the park but will not be able to get back into the park until  after 11 AM.  Shuttle buses will be bringing in spectators from the Fair Grounds.

    Location: Palisade State ParkPalisade State Park is having a fishing tournament Saturday, May 11th 7 am to 2 pm.  Sign in is going to be 6 am to 7 am and then fishing will start at 7 am.  There will be more then $500 in prizes ($300 gift card from Mtn Man Outdoors for 1st place, $200 gift card from Sportsmans Warehouse for 2nd place and $100 gift card from Cabela's for 3rd place).  We also have some great gifts from local sponsors that we will be giving away.  The entry fee for the tournament is $20 for adults, $15 for youth 16 and under.

Join the Park Naturalist at 8 pm at the Buffalo Point Parking Overlook for a ½ mile hike to the top of Buffalo Point to watch the sunset and the moon rise.     Location: Camp Floyd State ParkCamp Floyd State Park in conjunction with the Utah Civil War Association are hosting a Civil War Encampment on Memorial Day Weekend.  The event will allow visitors to experience camp life and participate in several activities performed by soldiers of Johnston’s Army.  Events include reenactments, encampments, stagecoach rides (Monday 12pm – 2pm), firearm and cannon demonstrations, marches, drills, 1861 period games, and photos in period uniform.
