Winged Visitors

While the Midway area may not seem like the hottest spot for birding compared, let’s say, to the Great Salt Lake, Antelope Island, and the Jordanelle Wetlands, it does provide some wonderful opportunities for birding. All of the birds pictured below were found at Wasatch Mountain State Park.

There are the expected varieties:

Steller’s Jays

Scrub Jay

Ring-necked Duck

Pine Siskens

Dark-eyed Junco and White Crowned Sparrow

Then there are some less expected and a bit more elusive species:

Spotted Towhee

Ruffed Grouse

Great Blue Heron

Green-winged Teal

Cinnamon Teal

Some of my favorites, those that just kind of show up for a day now and then or are just so beautiful:

Wilson’s Phalarope

Western Tanager

Spotted Sandpiper

Snowy Egrets

Lesser Yellowlegs

Grab your binoculars and come join me in Midway to look for some great birds.  I’m always happy for a reason to get out from behind my desk.
