12-Year-Old Boy Killed in Snowmobile Accident

WASATCH COUNTY — A 12-year-old boy was killed Monday following a snowmobile collision while on a family outing.

The boy, identified as Jaxon Lewis of Salt Lake County, was riding snowmobiles with his family in the Mill Hollow Reservoir area in Wasatch County. Lewis was heading across a ridge line, when an adult family member heading perpendicular up the hillside, unaware of Lewis’ location, struck the boy’s snowmobile in a broadside collision.

Lewis was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, but still received significant head trauma.

Family members and other area snowmobilers began administering CPR to the injured boy and placed a call into emergency responders at 12:22 p.m.

A medical helicopter was dispatched to the area and Lewis was transported to Primary Children’s Hospital for treatment.

At 2:52 p.m. on the same day, Lewis died from the injuries he sustained in the snowmobile crash.

The Utah Division of State Parks and Recreation wishes to extend our condolences to the family and all those affected by this tragedy.

We would also like to remind everyone that safety should be a priority when recreating outdoors.
